Personally I am tired of the ridiculous defenses offered by c-rockers of DC Talk and
the like. This critique simply demonstrates how indefensible the lyrics are aside from the
music and behavior which my article examining this group speaks more about.
Separated I cut myself clean
From a past that comes back in my darkest of dreams
Been apprehended by a spiritual force
And a grace that replaced all the me I've divorced
Separated from what? The audience must ASSUME what the writer means IF they can understand
a bit of what is being said over the droning beat of the music! If they have cut
themselves clean from the world why do they still behave as the world? Other than being
separate, what vague reference to scripture is here? Are Christians
"apprehended" by a spiritual force?! This song gives no indication for
the listener to have a point of reference to what the writer has "divorced"
themselves from! Again, vague, vague, vague!!!
I saw a man with tatt on his big fat belly
It wiggled around like marmalade jelly
It took me a while to catch what it said
Cause I had to match the rhythm of his belly with my head
Jesus Saves is what it raved in a typical tattoo green
He stood on a box in the middle of the city
And claimed he had a dream
This verse comes across more as a stereotypical insult of a street preacher!!! - It has
absolutely no relevance to scripture except a condemnation for the person who wrote it!!!
What will people think when they hear that I'm a Jesus freak
What will people do when they find that it's true
I don't really care if they label me a Jesus freak
Cause there ain't no disguising the truth
What truth? Even if I were to give these c-rockers the credit they are demanding if you
use this song to define what a "Jesus freak" is one must say it's a person who
lives like the world and insults street preachers!!! Which leads this reader of these
lyrics to say to be a "Jesus freak" is to be ANTI-CHRISTIAN!!!
Kamikaze my death is gain
I've been marked by my maker
A peculiar display
The high and lofty they see me as weak
Cause I won't live and die for the power they seek
At best more vague references to scripture, to the unsaved person utter nonsense. BECAUSE
there is no point of reference, no gospel message.
There was a man from the desert with naps in his head
The sand that he walked was also his bed
The words that he spoke made the people assume
There wasn't too much left in the upper room
With skins on his back and hair on his face
They thought he was strange by the locusts he ate
The Pharisee's tripped when they heard him speak
Until the king took the head of this Jesus freak
A confluted reference to John the Baptist. "Naps in his head," made people think
he was insane?! Thought he was strange? "The Pharisee's tripped"?! And they
insinuate that John was a "Jesus freak"?! --- What does the Bible say? This is
not poetic expression, it is false doctrine AND BLASPHEMY!
People say I'm strange, does it make me a stranger
That my best friend was born in a manger
People say I'm strange, does it make me a stranger
That my best friend was born in a manger
Was my best friend born in a manger? NO!! FAR, FAR MORE!!! How insulting this writer is!
How vaguely he expresses his love for Jesus Christ, MY GOD, MY LORD, MY SAVIOR, MY FIRST
LOVE, AND MY BEST FRIEND!!!
...
What else can I say
There ain't no disguising the truth
Jesus is the way
WHAT TRUTH!? The listener is forced to guess what Jesus is the way to!!! The concert I
witnessed PROVED that when they told the audience to talk to the person next to them about
"this Jesus." DC Talk disguises the truth in their lyrics at the very best and
has no truth but lies at worst!!! Is the gospel of Jesus Christ only for the teen that can
unravel the complexity of the music!? THAT'S WHAT NUMEROUS C-ROCKERS CLAIM!!! DC Talk
claims to share their faith, their faith in who and in what?! - Their music gives NO
INDICATION of faith in the Jesus Christ of the Bible!!!
